Yuriy Kirichok
Yuriy is a Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He is a world leading expert in biophysics and electrophysiology of cellular membranes and organelles. Yuriy has pushed the envelope in his studies of complex biological systems and made several breakthrough discoveries in the fields of bioenergetics and mammalian fertilization. These discoveries have been published in the top scientific journals such as Nature and Cell. Yuriy pioneered the measurement of the tiny electrical currents generated by mitochondria – the powerhouse of the cell. He applied these methods to discover the native physiological mechanisms that mitochondria use to generate heat, laying down the essential foundation for the technology being developed by Equator Therapeutics.
