Junji is an expert in electrophysiological and optical methods to study mitochondria and other cell organelles. He previously developed a series of widely used fluorescent indicators, CEPIA, to study calcium signaling in the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. Junji’s undeniable expertise in both classical and emerging methods of mitochondrial bioenergetics was instrumental in development of Equator’s unique high-throughput screening funnel for identification of activators of mitochondrial thermogenesis. He also drew on his strong background in computational methods to lay down the foundations of automated data analysis currently used by the company. Junji directs the Japan branch of Equator Therapeutics located in Osaka city. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Tokyo and did his postdoctoral training at the University of California San Francisco.
